PeeCee’s much-hyped track is finally out. It’s got great energy and’s rapping definitely adds muscle

In My City songMy first reaction on listening to Priyanka Chopra’s single In My City was, ‘Is this really Priyanka Chopra’s voice?’. It seems that the actor-turned-singer has been working hard for the last couple of years to achieve that level of vocal finesse. She had been doing riyaaz even on the sets of her filmBarfi!, training with a voice coach and a team of experts to get good voice quality, we are told. And it all seems to have worked wonders for her. The huskiness and the cool vibe in her voice make In My Cityexciting. Black Eyed Peas singer’s rap portions are, as always, super cool!

My next reaction was – why that accent? Obviously Universal Music is mainly targeting the Americam market and I guess Piggy Chops had no other choice but to fake it…or did she? The track plays up to the huge mainstream American dance music market. And it succeeds in making you want to kick off your shoes and dance. But for those looking at some Indian influences in Priyanka’s music, there are none, not yet anyway. Let’s hope there is more desi tadka – in terms of either instruments or lyrics – in her forthcoming singles, because that’s her true identity, isn’t it?

Must say, PeeCee looks super sexy in the video (the original and the special version shot for the National Football League) and she’s got the right attitude. In my city is a good dance track and should become hot on the dance floor in the coming days.

Watch the video of the making of In My City and tell us – do you think that Priyanka has it in her to be the next big singing star?
