Anil Kapoor refuses to abuse on screen
No doubt a film like ‘Shootout at Wadala’ warrants some harshness of language but Anil Kapoor will have none of it! He was recently on the sets when told that he’d have to abuse John Abraham for a scene, along with Manoj Bajpai and Sonu Sood. The hesitant Anil simply refused to shoot the scene. An eyewitness says that he put his foot down with director Sanjay Gupta and asked him to change the scene altogether. Apparently, shooting came to a grinding halt for nearly an hour-and-a-half while the scene was rewritten to Anil’s comfort.
Kapoor plays a cop by the name of Isaque Bhagwan in ‘Shootout… and obviously wields enough power to dictate what his character can and cannot do. He had read the said scene in the script in advance but decided otherwise, when he actually came on the sets. Sanjay Gupta admits, “Even we felt the film would become unnecessarily heavy on expletives. It was a creative call. Anil had reservations – it’s fine.”
According to an Anil source, he felt the abusive language would go against his image. His large fan following includes a lot of children (thanks to Mr. India) and he wasn’t comfortable. This proves one thing – when you’re an actor worth your salt, even Balaji Motion Pictures (one of the biggest in the business today) has to agree with you!
